The flag is the symbol of the existence and independence of a nation and the memory of its history. Its value does not depend on whether it is made of cotton, linen or silk, but is measured by the value of the nation it represents. The flag is respected because it represents the sovereignty, independence and honor of the state. With these feelings and thoughts, the Rectorate of our University opened Türkiye’s first and only National Flag Museum on September 9, 2020, the day of the liberation of our beautiful İzmir from enemy occupation.

Our museum consists of 3 exhibition halls, 1 multipurpose hall, 1 children’s museum room, 1 specialized library and 1 archive room. Our museum uses the 130 years old historical Eylül Kiosk building which is located in Dokuzçeşmeler Campus of our university and is situated on 5 acres of land.

In our Moon and Star Halls, which are the main presentation halls of our museum, the historical journey of the moon and star is told with historical objects. The history of Turkish flags and flagology is also presented through interactive applications and multivision shows.

Our museum also manages information and documents. In line with our remote access goals, the museum’s extensive collection is available for online access.

In the collection of our museum, there are special flags that need to be preserved and passed on to future generations, such as the veteran flags of the National Struggle, the flags that served in Anıtkabir and the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, the border flags. In addition, there are moon- and star-themed period artifacts.

Our museum is open 6 days a week between 09.00 – 17.00. It is closed on Sundays. Group visits must be arranged in advance.
