Library Facilities

The information services of the university, which consists of many faculties and vocational schools in İzmir and the surrounding provinces, are provided by Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Central Library located in Tınaztepe Campus, and the total number of libraries in our university is 12, including the libraries in other faculties and schools. These faculties and schools consist of; Buca Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Medicine, Torbalı Vocational School, Bergama Vocational School, Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology, School of State Conservatory, Efes Vocational School and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In this way, the information needs of users can be met with high service quality, fast and under the leadership of a professional team. Their total area is 19,410 m² and the total reader capacity is 2,448.

Undergraduate and Associate Degree students have the right to borrow 2 publications for 14 days. The Central Library at Tınaztepe Campus is open 24/7 on weekdays and weekends during the academic calendar period.

Libraries have a high quality and rich collection of printed and electronic resources. Together with the unit libraries, the total number of printed publications is 415,289; the number of electronic full text books is 482,254. The total number of printed and e-books is 897,543. In order to benefit from the developments in electronic information access systems, our university has subscriptions to 73 electronic databases and 80,100 e-journals are accessed through these subscriptions. The central and unit libraries host many scientific and cultural events in their meeting rooms and halls.

In order to meet the information needs of our visually impaired users in our university, the ‘Unit for Visually Impaired People’ serves in the Central Library. The Unit for Visually Impaired People provides information services to visually impaired users by using its hardware and software technologies. For visually impaired users, books are read aloud and recorded by volunteers in environments with technical rules. With the declaration of 2020 as the ‘year of accessibility’ by President of Türkiye, the ‘Be the Voice of My Book’ project was launched to raise awareness and set an example in this regard. Thus, it was aimed to enable our visually impaired students and visually impaired citizens to benefit more from today’s audio technologies and to improve our audio book infrastructure. The project is ongoing and the number of volunteer readers willing to read books and our collection of audiobooks is gradually increasing. This service is a first among university libraries in İzmir. Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Central Library was awarded the ‘Accessibility in Space Award (Orange Flag)’ within the scope of the Barrier-Free University Flag awards organised by Council of Higher Education (CoHE) in 2021. In 2022; it was entitled to receive the ‘Accessibility Certificate and Accessibility Logo’ as a result of detailed audits by the Accessibility Monitoring and Supervision Commissions of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services.
